First Battle of the Palo Duro
Webmaster's note: I believe this is in reference to the battle between Colonel Ranald S. MacKenzie, leading the 4th U.S. Cavalry, and the Texas Kiowas led by Chief Lone Wolf and Chief Poor Buffalo. These battles were part of what became known as the Red River War - the United States' last major effort to drive the Native Americans from the southern plains onto the reservations in Indian Territory (Oklahoma).
