Census Records

NOTE: Before 1880, Federal census records for the Armstrong County area are included in the BEXAR County records. Keep in mind that the area is sparsely populated.

All census indices are free to search with a free account, courtesy of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints' website, FamilySearch.org. Please join their effort to transcribe other important records. As of April, 2022, we're working on the 1950 census.
1880 Federal Census - only 31 inhabitants
We have a copy of the original image in the Archives. The 1880 is the first census for Armstrong County and the first to include relationships.
The 1890 Federal Census was destroyed in a fire before it was copied. The 1890 Union Soldier Schedule is sometimes used.
The 1900 Federal Census images are also located in the Archives. It's the first that asked for number of years married, number of children borne by females and number of living children.
The 1910 is the second census that asked for number of years married, number of children borne by females and number of living children.
In 1920, the census was enumerated in January and many families were missed, likely due to weather. It offers very little in the way of extra information except for the names of the roads on which the people lived.
The 1930 census offers addresses for folks in town, age at first marriage and veteran status.
The 1940 offers addresses for folks in town, education level, residence in 1935, employment status and total income for 1939.
